Patching and packing is my least preferred step in cleaning my computer.

Free software has come a long way, just as everything else, so my suggestion is to slowly start migrating and relying on it more than before.

Good tips! When it comes to keeping my computer clean, I always use the same free software:

- Microsoft Security Essentials. Very good and lightweight. Highly recommended.
- CCleaner. Little application which cleans up a lot of stuff.

Great post!

I try and reinstall everything on my computer about every 6 months. It really is the only way to keep it running fast. They all get bogged down after a while and no amount of anti virus/spyware software seems to ever properly fix it.

Good and easy to understand instructions!
And if that doesn´t help you can still try to run a Linux Live CD ( for example Ubuntu )

Yeah, this is a good guide. There's nothing like a clean format - Makes your PC feel like it's brand new again!
