Changing your Computer Name on OS X

November 16th, 2007 · 1 Comment

I had to do a quick Google search for this one after not finding any immediate help in System Preferences. The answer came to me through Matt Mullenweg’s blog. System Preferences –> Sharing –> Computer Name. Not quite sure why it’s under sharing… but this is a Mac and I guess I don’t quite think like Steve Jobs yet. ;)

I am not a part of Apple in any other way than a user but i think i can answer the reason why you would have to go to System Preferences/Sharing/Computer Name… Basically the only purpose for having a computer name is for sharing purposes… not other reason… you have user access or user accounts on a computer but that is just to identify the person using the computer…. the Computer name only means anything when others are trying to get access or you are giving access to it. does that make sense?
